I saw and photographed two sparrows, presumably male and female, on an overhead wire on June 9, 2012. They seemed to be mating. This was one of the occasional times that I have seen sparrows now in Sarita Vihar.

After 1990's, due to felling of trees and the change of buildings from Tiled roofs to Concrete roofs, the sparrows disappeared totally and there are no sparrows found at present.

Well there used to be a lot of sparrows in this very locality some years back, during my schooldays more specifically. Infact, I used to have early morning school and the thing that used to wake me up most often wasn't an alarm ring or the newspaper vendor's ring or the scolding of parents but the ever-so-lovely chirping of the sparrows. They weren't just seen flying outside along the circumference of all the houses in the locality but also very frequently within our rooms into which they sneaked through the ventilators.
They're unfortunately nowhere to be seen currently. It's very sad and I dearly miss that wonderful chirping sound.
