I live on the third floor and there is a mango tree opposite my balcony. These sparrows usually come in the morning. I do night shifts so I get to see them only on weekends. They come in groups or 10 or more and make a lot of sound. I have tried my best to photograph them but they fly away. By the time I adjust my camera, they are gone. They make a lot of sound and the sound reminds me of my childhood. My school had plenty of sparrows and everytime I hear their sound I go back to time. Their sound makes me very happy and everytime I hear, I want to go back to my childhood. Thanks!

since last 20 years i am observing this birds in this area, before 2007-08, there were more in numbers as well as in the nesting season at my residence only we had 3 to 4 active nests, we had a privilege to witness chicks turning in to birds, in last season that in 2011 only one chick survived though there were 4 nests . This year not a single nest become successful.
i have placed one Box which one sparrow couple prefers every year, this time i place two more new Earthen Nests but they did not accepted.
As far as numbers is concerned every year they are declining and female birds are less compare to male.
In my area bushes are now less and even number of trees are also reducing alarmingly.
Besides lack of nesting roosting sites , Shikra, Cats and common myna are major threats to them as a predators.

it is very disappointing that i and my entire family trying hard to help this chirping bird but not getting much success.

I have always seen House Sparrows all my life. But after the decline, I have noticed them in a few spots in and around Poona. I see them at Shivaji Market mostly flying around the Matki vendors.

This was a period when I saw many sparrow nests in every possible place that I could think of in the vicinity. The ventillation window near the ceiling in my bathroom was their favourite place to nest every season. Unfortunately, I've seen many little ones fall off and die or abandoned by their parent sparrows!! But there have been success stories also. Nature keeps its balance after all :)

Sparrows were my daily visitors, actually breakfast companions!! I loved to share my idlis, rotis, or breads with them. During hot days, it was my favourite pasttime to watch a pair or two of sparrows taking a dip bath in the water filled earthen bowl that I used to keep in the balcony for them to drink. Their soft chirping, chatting and sharing their stories with each other in their sweet language was a delight to watch. I miss them very much now.
