1. Female sparrows saw a fling , female Common Mormon butterfly , dashed towards it, then retreated back when reached within a foot or so, possibly butterfly,s colouration and size was too much to scare it.
Dt 16 August 2004.
1.A female brought a green coloured, 40 mm long caterpillar, placed on ground, pecked several times, reducing to fragments, then carried the larger part away.
Similar caterpillar also brought on 15 & 23 Aust and same act reepeated.

1. Full grown chick, repeatedly demanded food from parents,

1. Longtailed Shrike with 2 subadult chicks present in locality, four female sparrows no sooner noticed their presence, immediately dashed and drove them away

I have been living in this area for 2/3 decades. Last few years, I had the impression that sparrows have vanished from here. Seldom saw them in my lawn. But lately, I get the feeling, they are coming back. I often see them in pairs or in small nos. But once, about 4 months back, I saw a large no. (twenty or so)perched on a wire in the market of sector 14. It was sometime in the morning (8 or 9 am).

2, This time lesser numbers, as observed in stay of about 40 minutes, about 35 birds seen in market area.
3. Status possibly more or less same as in past.
