I see house sparrows every day in the front and backyard of my home where I have a jacaranda tree, creepers and other plants. The sparrows come in large numbers and I see a few nests too. However, their numbers have declined in areas where my neighbours cut the bushes and surrounding trees in an illegal manner.

Manibaug a residential area with mostly individual bunglows Valsad Gujarat
This residential area a rural township has bunglows and the sparrows have adapted to make their nests in the bathroom/ toilet windows/ in the pots kept hanging outside the bunglows after a ritual, or in the bushy trees of the gardens. My residence has 5 nests with almost 9-10 pairs of young ones grown in one and half years of which 2-3 died possibly due to competition among siblings in nest/ accidental falling. The food is not a problem for them as most residents keep grains and water in vessels specifically for bird feeding. Even extra stale food is also kept out at times which is shared by birds and squerrels even. We have seen the sparrows eating the rotis/ papads thrown by children/ may be stale ones. If we cannot conserve them atleast we should not disturb them so as to allow them to adapt. AND THEY PROVE THAT THEY SURVIVE.

Near Gram Panchayat Umalwad Shirol Maharashtra
I live in a village umalwad. In a window of my house i put 3 pots with water. Everyday i replace this water with fresh water. Sometimes i put some rice, jowar, etc for sparrows.
Every day i wake up at 6 o clock, and firstly i replace the water from pots with fresh water. My house is old house about 100 years old. The walls of my house are made up of from stones and mud. Thats why sparrows are used to built their nets in the small blocks in the wall since i was of 5 years old.
But now a days, sparrows are continuously vanishing or decreasing day by day. I would like to join this community to protect sparrows.
Thanks a lot

Hole in the wall of residential building of the address given above 6016, Mehrauli Mahipalpur Rd, Vasant Kunj New Delhi Delhi
I have been observing this pair (MF) of sparrows nesting in this hole ( approx 5" x 5")in the wall at third floor height, which is north-east facing. Usual time to sight the sparrows is morning 7 am. It is early summer now (Apr 2012). Rarely thereafter. The hole appears to be a (potential) nest; but am not too sure. Have seen on couple of occasions, common mynahs & brahmany mynahs trying to shoo them away/attack - at the hole. Have a few photos.
