I have lots of potted plants (especially Tulsi) Money plant etc. on my balconies. I do have some pots near my kitchen window too where I observe some sparrows chirping away in the morning. I leave a basin with water and some bajra in a pot for feeding them. But mostly crows and pigeons eat it up. I do keep some small pots with seedlings. These sparrows feast on the young plant leaves. They also like to peck on tulsi leaves.
We do have some trees remaining around our society which keeps these birds like sparrows and mynas staying on.

This time when I visited my home in May 2012, I heard sparrows chirp in the society. It felt really good after hearing them chirp. I hope they multiply.

Chandigarh Raiway plateform. On 10 April 2012, I spent about one hour on the ptateform waiting for New Delhi Shatabdi Express. There were so many mynas in large flocks flying from one overhead electric line to the other but I failed to locate even one sparrow or sparrow nest.

I have seen this 1 sparrow in all the several years I have lived in CR park and Kalkaji area of N. Delhi. I am from Calcutta and we used to have several sparrow nests up in our attic, in small crevices, gaps left in the walls or between the asbestos roof and the wall. I think nesting has become a huge problem for these intelligent, energetic little birds other than food competition with other urban bird species. I suggest that we all participate actively in bringing back these birds by sharing a little space & food with them. Hang a few bird houses(with small entry/exit holes to allow only sparrows), make small balcony gardens or roof gardens...we have to take initiatives in personal and local levels. By the way, in my frequent visits to the hills of Uttarakhand, I do see a lot of sparrows..at least 4 sub-species, every time.

house sparrow has his nests in my house.they live in my house behind the photo frame or on the curtains.we do not use selling fans to protect them from dieing by smashing aganist the fan to protect their precious lives we use ac or stand fans.Their voice make us feel good.
