I am staying in this locality since 2007 Jan. Panchavati Area is surrounded on two sides by Vetal Tekdi and two sides be government land. The Mantri avenue complex is also a residence for many birds, very common being of Sparrows, Pigeons, Brahmany mainas, Bulbuls ,owls,sunbirds and even sighted a Shikhara. These areas on Pashan road are reasonally in thre green belt with much open space
The chirpy sparrows perch on the windows of my house from morning and have several nests in the bushes as well as in the Balcony. In fact to reduce the menace of the pigeons littering the Balcony, i had put a Jali to the balcony. Finding a small opening few weeks two pairs of sparrows have managed to reside in the balcony making a home of themselves in a gap near the ceiling and wall.
The sparrows are found in plenty not just in our complex but also in the whole of Panchavati, throughout the year.

I always use this area for my morning or evening walks.This area has a large cover of greenery with many old type govet, houses and tall trees with a large number of birds residing.
I often see the sparrows chirping and zipping past in the vicinity of many of the residential houses here. At times i see them vanashing in the bushes or in some nook of the houses. Have not been able to spot their nests as i did not dare to enter people's houses and also since i have always seen them, i have taken it for granted that they reside there.

Number of sparrows are reducing day by day, month by month, and year by year in our area Some years ago there ware 50 to 70 sparrows divided in groups in our single colony. But now i hear occasionally the chattering of sparrows. Now i consider my self lucky even if i saw 5 sparrows on trees.
People cut the houses of birds and built there own houses. They cut the trees for clear vision of sky from window. Haw could we say the justice is fair and reasonable among living species?
But really in i miss the moment at window where i put bowl of rice and water where sparrows gather.

When I started living in this colony, there used to be large number of sparrows particularly in the morning. Gradually, the number started declining almost becoming zero until recently. There is a mobile tower on top of our building and a Diesel Gensetfor this. This was provided with a very sensitive control device resulting in frequent start of the set even for mior fluctuation in voltage. We requested for changing the setting, which has been done recently. This seems to have some positive effect as we see return of the sparrows, though very few in numbers.
