They were busy looking for food whenever I saw them!

I remember about 20 years ago when I had visited this place there were hundreds of sparrows on the tree near the market place. All of them are gone now. There are three mobile towers around this tree with in a distance of 500 mts. Sparrows need worms to feed their young ones due to extensive use of pesticides their population is coming down and people blame the mobile towers for the dwindling population.Sparrows have dwindled now a days as people are building RCC houses where there is no niche for house sparrows to build their nests. Every small thing adds on to loss of habitat for the poor sparrows.

These sparrows were basking in the cold winter of Kolkata in December 2012. I was surprised to see about five of them together after a very very long time. As far as I can remember the last time I spotted one was about four to five years back.

Capt Pandit - Hs No. 1082, Sector 26, Panchkula Extn Sector 26, Panchkula Extension Panchkula Haryana

It was 7.30 a.m. while out on a walk. I saw a good 3 pairs feeding/rearing their feathered chicks among the branches of creepers of these two facing houses. I saw at least two nesting pairs as well under the ledge of house No.1082, Sec 26. It was a very happy treat to my eyes, seeing these House Sparrow group of 5-6 pairs, rearing and feeding chicks.
Though there is a Mobile Tower about 600 yards exact North of this (Sparrows SITE).
