When we lived in the area of West Mambalam, We had active sparrow nest and usually sparrows kept flying in and out of our home. But after we changed to this locality, a few sparrows were seen during the initial years (1996-1997).
But, after that all I could notice was the decline of the sparrows and with the advent of the cellphone towers now, I never saw even one sparrow.

Its a sight to watch every single day when atleast 5-7 sparrows would be there at the backyard to peck something from the soil. every day we keep hearing the chirps and we also made a bird house just for this start of this year. However havent had a bird visiting our birdhouse. they love to freeky access our house every day morning even today.

I was lived there. Even now whenever i vist my town i found them often. Its bad luck in metro or like cities they getting extinct but in my place its a cultural sub urban or urban type locality where we can found them easily. Even my brother serve bread to them from around 10+ years as i know. Also we have old building aged between 50-100 yrs old that they can easily make nests in wall cracks. I think i m lucky enough to have this beautiful bird around us because of an old native place. Thanks for doing this job. Its really a great thing to do.

My mother and I have a penchant for birds. When we moved to Gurgaon from Delhi, we wondered what birds would visit our balcony. the first visitor was a myna bird with his mate. we fed chapatti and bread to it regularly. Soon, in a matter of 1-2 months two pairs of sparrows started visiting us. i remember one incident when i was trying to take pictures of two young sparrow birds perched in the balcony grill. As i moved closer to take a good picture of the baby sparrows, it's overpossessive father came along and started making a loud noise. The father sparrow moved to the adjoining balcony and "had asked" his little ones to move along. His noise sounded like he was scolding me!
