vimal patel - raipur, gomtipur, city area Sherkotda Ahmedabad Gujarat

Good Morning!

I would like to give you some suggestions that please visit all city areas where placed "CHABUTARAs"((The Gujarati Word)- the place where any people put down some different types of foods for all type of birds) as they are very precious and very costly. Also please start a Three Wheeler (Tempo) to go to all places where is located "CHABUTARA" every day with loaded of sparrow nesthouses to be placed where it would be necessary and the tempo is also full of sparrow foods like wheet, bajari, kanki, small rice, mamra etc... (gujarati language words) and the tempo guy must be filled sparrow food pots and water pots everyday and put down nesthouses as required places in all his daily activities.

These daily activities will definitely boost up sparrow numbers in ahmedabad city old areas (Raipur, Gomtipur etc...) in Pole areas / Old Residential Areas.

And also make sure that put down water pots alongwith food pots as required/observed places so, sparrow numbers will surely increasing in very sort time.

I hope you will take some serious and quick steps and help sparrows.

Thanks with Best Regard,

Vimal Patel

Sameer Heblekar - Mayur Colony (Residential Colony), Kothrud Mayur Colony Pune Maharashtra

Last decade of the last centuary was a time when house sparrows were very common in residential areas. Frequently they would try to build nests in our homes and residents would try everything to keep these birds from coming into the house.
But today still staying in the same colony for the last 28 years, we miss these beautiful birds, those messy nests & most of all the chirpy little ones. We have grown up listening to stories about these sparrows. But the drastic reduction in the population of house sparrows makes me wonder whether our future generations would be able to do the same. Infact I doubt whether they would be able to spot a house sparrow in their neighbourhood. It shouldn't be that a sparrow becomes just another bird in the extinct list of a bird book that they might read about.

Interesting evasive behaviour

Mr Ajeet Bharos , on 10 August 2011 observed, about 40 sparrows congregating on small Accacia arabica tree near his residence.

A shikra prowling in locality saw them , arrived and perched atop the tree, no sooner it perched all the sparrows entered the interior of canopy/ foliage seeking protection.of thorns.

sparrows as well as the shikra , neither of them were prepared to leave the tree, even though Ajeet approached within 20 feet of them. They remained in this state for about 10 minutes, when the patience of the Shikra gave way it flew to other place , thereafter the sparrows became normal and after a minute or so came out.

sparrows congregate in very good numbers to roost here.
