Used to see sparrows almost everywhere-on the terrace of my house, in my school, playground etc. Never knew that those small birds that chirp around us whole day and are abundant in number would become a rare sight in few years. We need to do something substantial and effective to prevent the sparrows number from declining further.

5 years back when mobile towers came in our area, sparrows count declined, however at our place we started to feed the sparrows by keeping raw rice in the edge of our balcony in the early morning around 6:00 AM. Once sparrows got to know about this, they came in more numbers. My dad also started keeping water to drink and bathe in empty Shrikhand containers. Not only sparrows but we have started sighting Red and white headed Bulbuls as well.

Feel sad that i cant see them anymore. They used to nest in my house, I accidentally killed one 15 years ago and I still feel terrible about it. I love seeing them and hearing their chirping so I feel sad that development has been detrimental to their populations and individual lives.
