Rukmini Shekar - Muthiah street Chokkalingam Nagar, Teynampet Chennai Tamil Nadu

I see 2 cute sparrows every morning and afternoon in front of a shop opposite to my house. I have been looking for their nest but I have not been very successful in finding it. They come out when the shop is closed to feed on the little grains and leftovers on the street. They are very cooperative and understand each other very well. It's a great deal of pleasure to sit, watch and observe these two little birds. I have been observing them from December 2012....

Sumit - Shakti Apartments Sector 14 Panchkula Sector 14 Panchkula Haryana

My Apartments society had sparrows around 2004-2005. I remember videographing few of these. But a mobile tower came up in 2005 end of year and after that the sparrows have been declining, rather not seen. Recently I saw 2-3 sparrows in my area. Can I do something to save them?

Our place has lot of pigeons and squirrels. But sparrows are missing.

Thanks
Sumit

> The common H Sparrows are generally are in clusters of 50-60, they forage on the open ground and take flight when disturbed, swooping to a nearby location . they on tiny pods of small flowering shrubs, pecking away at the sepals of the flowers.
> A few nestboxes were provided, but none chose to reside and use it as a nest . the nest boxes were solely used for shelter during the harsh winter(-26 and lower). They prefer to nest in the wall of local bricks( in holes that are small enough only for them) there are no natural predators barring the odd feral felines and and the odd black Kite.
> The farmers (Budhists & Muslims)after harvest leave a quantity of Maize/ wheat for the birds to forage . the sparrows can often be seen clamouring with the local Tibetean Magpie for the spoils.
