Have been living in this locality from 1984 onwards. Have seen lots of these sparrows in those day in this area. We used to feed the birds raw rice everyday and we would find a huge flock of about 30 to 50 birds come and feast at our house.
With the advent of globalization and increase in vehicular population the decline in the numbers was clearly visible as they stopped coming by the beginning of 1990.
Am not sure if the mobile towers were responsible for this dwindling in numbers as i have seen these birds in numbers in places in Nilgiries like Ooty, Coonoor Etc. where inspite of the presence of mobile towers there is still a large population of sparrows.
