| Tell us more about yourself | I grew up in a small town Chengalpattu, 60 kms from Chennai.I can also say that along with cows, dogs, cats etc I shared my house with house sparrows. I still recollect those charming and cute birds which were part of our household, building their nests on the grandfather clock, between ceiling rafters, corners of open indoor power lines etc.
Those were the days when people used to live in indivisual houses and many of the households had cows and paddy straw bales.unlike the present times the people never used to shut the windows of their houses which enabled the sparrows unbridled access to the insides of the houses.I used to watch with fascination the way they come shooting into the house with a strand of straw in their beaks to build their nests. And their untiring labor in raising their offspring and dutifully feeding them.
I have watched how the male and the female lived as life- companions and shared their duties beautifully.
Now living in an apartment in crowded and polluted chennai, I can only draw sustenance from my mental images of those times and the lovable house sparrows.
I miss them as I do many other things that were part of those good old days.
