Hari Rajah -
madras race course Race View Colony, Guindy Chennai Tamil Nadu
The Madras race course's land is also shared by the madras Gymkhana club's Golf Annexe and since I am a regular golfer I frequently see sparrows in good numbers but in small flocks. They are always quick and keep hopping from place to place in search of feed. I personally feel that the change in style of human habitat over the years(Like from individual dwelling units to apartments)and as well as mode of storage of food grains might have affected their diminishing in numbers. In olden days food grains were always spilling from sacks and gunny bags, and soon these small birds would come swooping down on them with their constant chatter especially in olden homes which had large open areas in the rear.
