Swapnesh Rangnekar - Ish Prasad Residential Colony, Andheri East Mumbai Maharashtra

The bird during this time used to make their nests in whatever place available. Once not making their nest, the sparrow laid its egg within the curtain. Unaware of this, when the curtain was opened, the egg got broken. A very strange behaviour!!!

Humayun Taher - Nanakramguda village Hyderabad Andhra Pradesh

I use this route to commute to office daily. My time of visit is generally between 11.00 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. (variable based on the time I have to be in office). Almost all the times I pass this village, I observe between 10 - 20 Sparrows along the route. BUT ONLY IN THIS VILLAGE. Even a few hundred metres before and beyond the village I do not see any sparrows. They are only seen in the confines of the village, around the three grain stores that are in the place.

S. Kiranjot Singh Malhotra - Takhat Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib Nanded Maharashtra

no doubt, a very large number that is above 100(approximately) were there in that period, but before that, I heard that even more sparrows were there.

Q4. What kind of general area are you reporting about?
-->at that time it was not labelled as a city, but was a town now it is city.

I don't remember about nest, but heard that there were nest also(. Obviously there would be some nest with such quantity of sparrows is there.

Usha Lachungpa - Mahatma Gandhi Road, Gangtok Gangtok Sikkim

There was a big colony of House Sparrows at Melli Bazar, South Sikkim in 1988 (strange because Salim Ali did not come across it in Sikkim during his surveys), while Eurasian Tree Sparrows were common higher up in Gangtok. I first saw House Sparrows in Gangtok in 1990. It was a pair on MG Road the heart of Gangtok above a photography shop called Panorama and commented to my husband Ganden that someone must have released them or they were escapes, as they were not supposed to occur here. Today one can see more of them living comfortably with the Tree Sparrows and I wonder if they are interbreeding as there was a big mixed flock in the STNM Hospital Complex, a stone's throw from MG Road. Some time back I observed House and Tree Sparrows at the VIP Colony gate, above Gangtok, at about 2000m. Sign of global warming? In the Forest Colony where I live, about a km from MG Rd, we also have Russet Sparrows. Ali Hussain had caught some in BNHS mist nets and we ringed them around 1996. That makes it three Sparrow species in Gangtok itself!
