Ushma Shukla - Residential complex Pune Maharashtra

They were normally here in the winter months. It would be a constant game with the sparrows shuttling towards the back of the house in the kitchen window where my mom's bird feeder is, then to the garden below in the complex where the insects would come up in the sun and then to the front of our house on the balcony railings. And finally got driven away when the pigeons/crows came.

Different birds visited the bird-feeder at different times - sparrows, munias, bulbuls, mynas, crows and pigeons.
I haven't been home for the last few winters so I don't know what has been happening in this time.

B. Srinivasa Phani Krishna - Quadribagh, Amberpet Hyderabad Andhra Pradesh

I live at this place since 9 years, once i rescued a hurt bird and offered a place in the apartments, slowly the number started increasing, and also the number of pigeons started to decrease in the common area in the flats, I am very happy with the present number and also the groups.

mayur - a residential colny Golaghat Assam

The place about which I have reported above is my home since birth, i have seen sparrows in floks earlier but the number have drastically reduced in the very recent times, earlier nests wre also observed in the locality.

Deepthi - Old residential colony housing the employees of a paper mill. Triveni Colony. Sarapaka Andhra Pradesh

I lived in this place for ten years from 1989-1999. As far as my memory goes, I had always seen them. I visited this place frequently thereafter and still do. I see them daily when I am there. I remember them coming into the kitchen from the back door. They do not anymore due to architectural changes made to the house. I would still say they are quite common. On a lighter note, my mother regularly keeps grains for them in-spite of complaining about the soaring prices!I would see palm-squirrels and sparrows feeding on them. People do not keep nest boxes. I am sure most residents do not know about the decline in Sparrow population.

This residential colony would be demolished in two years from now to make way for the big machines that this paper mill brings in every other year. The entire colony would be replaced by machines, machines and more machines.

Koustubh Sharma - Surya Colony Kolar Road Bhopal Madhya Pradesh
