M Roy - Bangalore International Airport Bengaluru International Airport Access through Gate 1 Karnataka

Few Sparrows seen inside the Airport building frequenting the food court areas. These birds appeared malnourished and not exactly sparrow like in appearance. Seemed to be losing out on their feathers.

I live in an apartment since early 2009. The area of Sheelanagar has recently been in developments and more residential apartments have come up in the 2010-2011 period.

I have never seen any sparrows in the area. The area is still developing and resembles more like a village. There are cultivated lands nearby. Overall it is an open area with greenery around and recently more of residential developments.

Crows are very common and few other birds also visit the area like small cranes and the common mynas are very common.

But I have never seen any sparrows that should be more common. I guess they seem to have completely vanished from that area. I have not found much or any rather sparrows even in the city areas.

I have been living in Bangalore since 2004 in Bommanahalli, near Silk Board. I have never seen any sparrows frequent the area. It is a residential area with a lot of houses everywhere.

For the first time, I saw sparrows in Bangalore at the new International Airport at Devanahalli. They were found inside the airport, flying around frequently in search of food bits from the leftover plates at tables or on the floor. They were not many in number, hardly 3 or 4 that I could find at that time of my visit. They also did not look very healthy or look actually sparrow-like. Living inside the building, I figure their only source of food would be from the food courts and their tables. Their nests would be somewhere high in the ceiling rails or corners.

I was out of Bangalore for a brief period and returned back in October 2011. I started living in another area, Ayyappanagar, KR Puram, which is in between the city and outskirts. There are few open spaces, trees in the area and it depicts more or less like a rural landscape. I have never seen any sparrows around since I started living here.

My own residential layout has a lot of trees and is frequented by a lot of parrots, cuckoos, and many other birds throughout the day but never have I seen any sparrows.

The only place that I hope to find sparrows now would be inside the Bangalore airport. However, if the authorities decide to wipe them out considering them a nuisance, then the hope of seeing them there is also lost.

The only memories that I can recollect of sparrows are during my childhood when I did see them visit my surroundings and school frequently.
